When: Monday April 21st Time: 12:00 – 2:00pm Notes: Meet at UCLA, CORNER OF LE CONTE AND WESTWOOD, WESTWOOD VILLAGE Additional: Join Last Chance for Animals (LCA), In Defense of Animals (IDA), Stop Animal Exploitation Now (SAEN) and activists all over the world for World Laboratory Animal Liberation week and the fight to end animal abuse in the laboratories at UCLA.
Over 20,000,000 million animals suffer and die in U.S. laboratories every year. These innocent victims are subjected to addictive drugs, caustic chemicals, ionizing radiation, chemical and biological weapons, electric shock, deprivation of food and/or water, psychological torture and many other horrors. World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week (April 20th - 26th, 2008) is the time when activists come together to make a difference for these animals.
In the United States approximately 1100 labs experiment on animals every day.
During 2006 the number of primates used in experimentation reached an all time high -- 62,315.
These animals are depending on us to fight for their freedom. Please come out and show your support for the animals.

Details:
IDA will be kicking off WWAIL 2008 in the Bay Area with leafleting at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Please join us to help expose the plight of animals used in cruel and deadly experiments!
Due to UCSF researchers' persistent disregard for research protocols, the U.S. Department of Agriculture filed formal charges against UCSF for 75 counts of federal Animal Welfare Act charges in 2004. UCSF settled the charges by agreeing to pay a $92,000 fine.
Of the many vivisectors at UCSF, researcher Steven Lisberger (http://www.vivisectioninfo.org/lisberger.html) is perhaps the most infamous. He has been conducting cruel and invasive experiments on animals for more than 20 years, drilling holes in monkeys' heads and strapping them into restraining chairs for up to eight hours a day.
Please join IDA as we distribute literature to UCSF students and faculty about animal research performed at UCSF and alternatives to animal experiments, and encourage people of conscience to blow the whistle on animal cruelty taking place unseen inside UCSF labs.
